Both Kescom and WCS are doing various research projects in the area. As Kuruwitu is the oldest coral marine sanctuary in Kenya with data going back 20 years it provides an area of contrast with comparisons between the marine protected area and non protected areas . The amazing improvements in biodiversity warrants monitoring and the local community is also trained.
