KCWA recognises that supporting communities through conservation education and training is not enough to tackle the numerous and inter-related drivers of environmental change. For this reason, we take an integrated approach that includes community health and family planning, livelihood diversification, and strong support for education at primary, secondary and university levels.

By integrating these diverse activities into a cohesive programme, our communities are better equipped to successfully conserve and manage fisheries. By adopting this holistic approach we are able tackle the root causes of resource degradation and poverty to improve the long-term effectiveness and sustainability of our work. It proves that environmental protection can – and must – improve sustainable livelihoods.
