Recently a team from WCS, Kuruwitu Beach Management Unit (KBMU) and KCWA identified and recorded GPS points for the new CMA. The new CMA covers 12 square kilometer area. This follows months of sensitisation sessions with the local fishing community to get their buy-in and approval.

The next step is to develop a management plan and bi-laws for the area. This gives the KCWA and KBMU both an opportunity and a challenge to develop a master plan and then to make sure it is adhered to.

It is the next chapter in the success of the KCWA’s pioneering initiative that drives marine conservation in Kenya by managing marine resources to improve the livelihoods of the community.
