Ring Net operators continue to haul out tonnes of fish daily from the protected waters of the Marine Reserve.

They target reef fish around the shallow reef and lagoon areas taking out whole schools in one go.

The decimation of reef fish will result in degradation of corals and sea grass meadows and threatens the wellbeing of the whole Reserve.

Fisheries Department has licensed the ring netters without any measures of control, monitoring or regulation.

WMA continue to lobby Fisheries Department to play a responsible role in the management of our Marine Protected Areas.

If ring netting continues we will have nothing left to protect!
